Bonham therein proposed to reduce the expenditure of the Colony as far as practicable and with reference to this particular ease the Lord Grey in despatch_ No 64 of the 19th February 1850, directed and dent that upon the recurrence of a racaney the Salary should be the reduced from £300 to £200 por anum. which was the original sum assigned to the office-
